Traditional Logbook Keeping

Features and Usage

Logbook Management

Easily record logbook entries, including automatic capture of time, date, geolocation, speed, engine hours, sails configuration and heading. When online, the app also integrates real-time weather data from openweathermap.org for your location.

Crew Data Management

Managing crew information can be a challenging and time-consuming aspect of planning a sailing trip. Our app simplifies this by including a feature that allows you to integrate a crew list directly within the application. Additionally, crew members have the option to input their details through a secure web form, which safely encrypts and transfers their information to the app. Rest assured, this data is also strictly used for the purpose of importing it into the app and is not utilized in any other manner.

Hands-Free Operation

For safety and convenience, add entries via audio recording while you’re active on deck, allowing for time-efficient and convenient, almost hands-free operation. These recordings are accessible for playback directly from the logbook, so you can refine the logbook entry with information from your recording later.

Map Integration

Track your journey with map visuals on the Logbook Map page. Interactive pins allow for retrospective entry edits and additional detail modifications.

Weather and Navigation Data

Get current weather and a list of nearby seamarks for aid in navigation, all accessible within the app. For the seamarks in your vicinity, distance and bearings are calculated to aid in visual verification of your position.

Exports and Report generation

The application offers multiple export functionalities. You can generate crew lists as PDF and Excel and create reports that serve as proof of your crew members‘ nautical experience, even integrating signatures into the flow. Moreover, the app allows you to export the logbook in various formats such as Excel, CSV, PDF, as well as in GPX track format for route tracking in other geographical applications. Check out the export and reporting functionalities and how they streamline the Sailing Trip Management process from start to finish.

Technical Information and Credits

The app runs on Version 1.12 (2024) and is built using a suite of robust technologies, including Xamarin.Forms and Xamarin.Essentials. Credits to data providers like openseamaps and NOAA for lights and magnetic variation data respectively as well as to contributors to the technologies used (NPOI, MigraDoc, Microsoft.Spatial, Xamarin Community Toolkit, sqlite-net-pcl, SkiaSharp, Xamarin Signature Pad, Plugin.AudioRecorder, Refractored.MvvmHelpers), some of which are licensed under the MIT License.
